Lutherie Competitions 2026
Eufonica 2026 dedicates significant space to contemporary luthiery with the 1st International Biennial Lutherie Competition “Luigi Mozzani”, promoted in collaboration with Assimusica and dedicated to plucked string instruments.
From 12 to 17 May 2026, at BolognaFiere – Hall 33, professional luthiers, students and emerging makers under 35 from around the world will present outstanding instruments, selected and evaluated by international juries and exhibited to the public during Eufonica.
The competition highlights craftsmanship excellence, materials research and design innovation, offering an important opportunity for comparison between different approaches to luthiery and a direct meeting point for artisans, musicians and the public.
The Luigi Mozzani International Biennial Competition of Lutherie was established with the aim of bringing together and showcasing the finest expressions of contemporary lutherie for plucked string instruments, promoting craftsmanship, research, and design innovation.
Organised as part of Eufonica 2026 and promoted in collaboration with Assimusica, the competition will take place in Bologna from 12 to 17 May 2026 and will feature several categories, each evaluated by an international jury composed of luthiers and musicians.
All instruments admitted to the competition will be assessed, awarded and exhibited to the public during the event, offering an authoritative overview of the new directions in international contemporary lutherie.
The competition is open to:
• Professional luthiers, working either independently or as employees
• Students enrolled in recognised lutherie training programmes
Participation is reserved for candidates under the age of 35 (age completed by 31 December 2025 for the 2026 categories). For the 2026 edition, the following categories are open:
• Classical Guitar
• Ukulele
The Mandolin category will be introduced in the 2027 edition, as specified in the competition regulations.
The application form must be downloaded, completed and submitted by email to eufonica2026@assimusica.it by 15 April 2026. The application process includes:
• completion of the Mozzani registration form
• payment of the participation fee, according to the specified terms
• delivery of the instrument to BolognaFiere on the scheduled dates
