The Dom Famularo Memorial Day comes to Eufonica 2026

The Dom Famularo Memorial Day will take place for the first time at Eufonica, scheduled at BolognaFiere from May 15 to 17, 2026. The event, dedicated to the memory of one of the most influential educators and promoters of modern drumming, will bring musicians, teachers and enthusiasts to Bologna for a day of training, exchange and discovery of new talents.

Dom Famularo, who passed away in 2023, was an internationally recognized figure in the world of percussion: a drummer, educator and author who devoted his career to the development of music education and to inspiring new generations of musicians. Through workshops, books and masterclasses he inspired thousands of students and also promoted social initiatives such as Can Do Musos, a non-profit organization supporting musicians with disabilities, to which part of the funds raised during the event will be donated.

At the heart of the initiative will be the Dom Famularo Drum Contest, a national competition open to drummers of all ages and divided into three categories: 9–17 years, 18–29 years and over 30. Curated by Massimo Russo, percussionist and educator who represents Famularo’s teaching method in Italy, the contest includes an initial online selection based on the submission of a video performance, with further details available here. Selected candidates will advance to the live final in Bologna during Eufonica, where winners will have the opportunity to perform on the Memorial Day stage and take part in the Drum Camp with Simon Phillips.

The Memorial Day will also feature masterclasses, talks and performances with leading drummers and educators from the international and national scene, including Thomas Lang, Claus Hessler, Riccardo Merlini and Vera Figueredo, making it one of the most anticipated events of the Eufonica 2026 programme.
